So many things 'fly by' me when I'm working. I get to know Websites, technologies, design ideas and people all the time. This Blog is about these types of information/knowledge we all gather, while we are working...
The New Rules of Marketing and PR keynote presentation and Q&A session delivered by David Meerman Scott at the Business Marketing Association 2009 national “Unlearn” conference.
Scott spoke June 10, 2009 at the sold-out conference held in Chicago’s Drake Hotel.
Since the BMA is a business-to-business organization, Scott’s keynote is tailored to a B-to-B audience.
Scott argues that when others spread your ideas and tell your stories online, buyers are eager to do business with you and all kinds of doors begin to open.
moodspin develops social media add-ons, that allow you to update your mood easily and visually on your social media sites, and to easily learn how your friends are feeling.
Today, we announcing the first phase, which includes integration with Twitter.
The brand-new Beta site (http://www.moodspin.com), provides an easy way for you to update your friends about your moods and activities - going beyond text, it actually updates your user image (not drastically, it either adds a colored frame to your image, or a little emoticon at the bottom), and also lets you write about your mood and status. Using moodspin, your friends will always know the mood you are in, and you could know how they feel, in real time.
To keep it simple, you don’t have to create a user name for moodspin – just log in using your Twitter account, and you are in!
we would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions – this is an evolving project (our next phase is improving this version, creating an iPhone app and a Facebook app – do you have other ideas?)
I love my old iPod Shuffle. Just a small USB stick that plays music. I could use any headset I want and have full control over the music.
I did not buy the second generations as it was harder to use the controllers while running/riding and it requires a cable to charge/sync. However, I did like the clip.
I think the new generation took a step forward from design perspective, but MANY steps back as for usability.
It is great you could use playlists and there is no need for a screen to do it, but the 'new' VoiceOver is disappointing. For a cool looking device as this, to have this 1985 audio quality (text to speech) is just bad. I got flashbacks from years ago when I was developing eLearning tools and content and had to use the TTS (Text To Speech) from Microsoft...
You can create your own VoiceOver here - let me know if this makes sense to you...
One more thing - the new iPod requires you to use the 'new/special' headset. I do not like this type of headset, it keeps falling when I run.
UnHub is a new service that helps you aggregate your online presence.
TechCrunch: "...What UnHub does is create a persistent iframe bar with tabs for all your online presences (e.g. your blog, Twitter stream, LinkedIn account, Flickr profile, blog comments etc.) linked to a dedicated URL you can easily share with anyone..."
You can have all the diamonds, You can have all the gold But someday you're still gonna get old You've got to learn to get happy, along the way. Take some chances, allow yourself to get lost You're beautiful baby, you're the boss. You've got to learn to get happy, along the way
There's no road to follow, only stones left unturned You must play with fire, in order to get burned
Toss your misery, out the door What are you waiting for? You've got to learn to get a little happy, along the way It's alright to change your style, it's alright to smile It's alright to get a little happy along the way
Tough day at the office, and worse, not at home Don't wanna talk about it, Just wanna be left alone There's no joy in living, You're giving all and getting none It's a new beginning, you thought you lost, but honey you won.
You can have all the diamonds, all the gold Someday we're still gonna get old, We've got to learn to get happy along the way
Get your hat Get your coat babe Leave your worries on the doorstep We've got to get a little happy along the way.
I am presenting in the upcoming “Whose Cloud Is It Anyway?" event. I will demo Veodia’s services and solutions and will talk about what is unique about the way Veodia is using the ‘Cloud’.
In the end, if you want to feel confident in life—-every aspect of life—-you need to find a way to answer the question of value with a passionate “yes.” You don’t have to change the world. You don’t have to be a saint. But you do need to feel that every room you walk into is brighter and better equipped because you’re in it.
I like it as it makes the 'out of the box' phrase real. In this case - instead of a 'box'/screen it provides multiple display and interactive objects. This truly it breaks down the current interaction concepts by making the screen part of the interaction and not just the canvas.
"...
Siftables: Imagine overturning a container of nuts and bolts, then looking through the resulting pile for a particular item. Or spreading photographs out on a tabletop and then beginning to sort them into piles. During these activities we interact with large numbers of small objects at the same time, and they utilize all of our fingers and both hands together. We humans are skilled at using our hands in these ways, and can effortlessly sift and sort - focusing on our higher level goals rather than the items themselves.
Siftables aims to enable people to interact with information and media in physical, natural ways that approach interactions with physical objects in our everyday lives. As an interaction platform, Siftables applies technology and methodology from wireless sensor networks to tangible user interfaces. Siftables are independent, compact devices with sensing, graphical display, and wireless communication capabilities. They can be physically manipulated as a group to interact with digital information and media. Siftables can be used to implement any number of gestural interaction languages and HCI applications.
The Siftables interaction platform is a collaboration with Jeevan Kalanithi.
Today I've learned about Yslow. YSlow analyzes web pages and tells you why they're slow based on Yahoo's rules for high performance web sites. You may take the advices the tool provide you or just check your favorite sites... It is useful and addictive...
Also, I've read the Google Eye Tracking and Heat Maps Blog post and learned how Google uses Eye Tracking and Heat Maps to analyze and understand users activities and needs.
So, overall a very interesting day. I am glad I managed to combine design, usability and Web programing...

Zend Technologies Co-Founder Andi Gutmans Named Chief Executive Officer MySQL Veteran Mark Burton Named Zend Executive Chairman
CUPERTINO, Calif. — February 3, 2009 — Zend Technologies, the PHP Company, today announced that it has appointed Andi Gutmans, Zend co-founder, as its chief executive officer. Gutmans was most recently senior vice president for R&D and alliances at Zend, as well as chief technical officer. It also named Mark Burton, formerly executive vice president of worldwide sales at MySQL, as executive chairman. Harold Goldberg, who held the position of CEO at Zend Technologies during the past two years, will leave to pursue other opportunities.
Cameron Lester, a Zend director and general partner at Azure Capital Partners remarked: “Zend’s probably the most mature, fast track open source company today. Andi Gutmans’ vision and execution skills have played a key role in guiding the company’s strategy and expansion, and have supported PHP’s phenomenal growth to become the platform of choice for over 20 million Web sites. Business customers—especially in our current environment—are increasingly looking to open-source solutions to deliver both cost benefit and business agility, which is driving increasing opportunity for Zend. With Andi’s appointment as CEO, we are now confident that Zend has the leadership team in place to accelerate the execution of its growth strategy.”
“We are very fortunate to have Mark Burton join Zend as executive chairman,” says Danny Rimer, a Zend director and general partner at Index Ventures. “Mark was part of one of the most successful leadership teams in the history of open-source and there are many parallels between his former company—MySQL— and the strategy Andi has been driving at Zend. Mark will take a very active role and will add considerable operational and commercial depth to the team.”
Andi Gutmans stated, “I am honored to take the leadership role at the company I co-founded years ago, when open-source was in its infancy. Zend’s enterprise-grade PHP solutions and our growing customer roster have increased awareness of the high maturity level of PHP and the efficiencies it brings as most applications move to the Web. Going forward, we will continue to expand our industry-leading solutions for developing and running business-critical PHP applications, work more closely with our partners, and maintain our strong commitment to the open-source community.”
Mark Burton said, “I am thrilled to be joining Zend’s board of directors and am looking forward to working with Andi on realizing Zend’s strategic opportunity. Zend is uniquely positioned to take full advantage of PHP’s growth in driving business critical Web applications.”
About Andi Gutmans Andi Gutmans has been instrumental in building Zend into the company it is today. In addition to building key partnerships with IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and Adobe, and contributing to major sales engagements, in 2006 he led the company’s largest round of funding to date. Gutmans’ leadership of the company’s open source project Zend Framework has included galvanizing the PHP and enterprise communities around the benefits of standardization and has broadened the professionalism and market reach of PHP and of Zend solutions worldwide. Gutmans was named one of Computerworld’s “40 innovative IT people to watch, under the age of 40.” He is also recognized from the widely circulated technical publications he has authored and is a frequent speaker on business and technology issues at global conferences. Gutmans is a member of the PHP Group, the Apache Software Foundation, and serves on the board of the Eclipse Foundation. Gutmans holds a B.A. in Computer Science from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology.

Now, as I thought about it and after I researched a little (there are so many reports by now), I've realized that I just do not care.
As "The Stig" is more than a person - he is "The Stig".
The idea that their is someone on that TV show that actually knows what he is doing. It's like Steve Austin ("The Six Million Dollar Man") - you do not care who is the actor ( it is Lee Majors in case you do care) - just that he is Steve Austin.
Anyway, I will keep following this show as it has a good balance of geeky data and dry British sense of humor.
TechCrunch reported about Innovid (and brought their site down...) new announced capability to "help advertisers move away from the pre-roll with technology that allows for things like virtual product placements inside videos and turning entire surfaces into clickable canvases."
The visuals are great, but even more interesting is the multi-layer content capability as shown in this image:
Great to see innovation from Israel.
Would be interesting to see if Veodia could assist them with content creation.
As I opened my favorite Web Radio I've noticed that they have updated the web UI to match the iPhone UI. Main changes seems to be a tile view of station and album images, instead of the text list we saw before and a framing some lists and menus. I like.
In recent weeks, I've worked hard with the Veodia team releasing the new version of the service as well as providing everyone with the ability to try the amazing video platform we've developed.
We had a good plan and the team executed very well. But as always, many things had to change at the last minute and many last minute changes were more costly then planed.
I saw this movie long time ago on Assaf Arkin's blog, and although I believe we did much better (then shown in the movie), I would like to express my thanks to the team and acknowledge their efforts.
Last night Veodia released a new version of its video platform for business. In addition to 'enterprise' features, such as SSO, security, reports and integration to leading collaboration, sales, training and other systems, Veodia also offers a free trial of it 'Veodia Widget'. Now you can register to the Veodia service and start uploading and recording high quality videos directly into the 'cloud'.
In addition. Now you can register and try the Widget for free. We added the ability to share the video by direct link or by an embed code. I started using it to add video to my Twitter messages.
In the latest report by Ted Schadler (Forrester's Vice President and Principal Analyst), Ted covers several companies and video solutions for the Enterprise.
"...Information workers have been posting confidential videos to YouTube because they've had few alternatives. Fortunately, in the past few months, three vendors - Google, Microsoft, and Veodia - have introduced services or products for securely hosting videos with enterprise access controls.
These services give information and knowledge management professionals a way to harness the power of corporate and employee-generated video to teach, inspire, and capture knowledge.
This report introduces the business scenarios, platform checklist, and vendors for employee-generated video..."
Great validation for Veodia's vision and amazing execution capabilities!
It is going to be interesting to track this new product, as well as the Blackberry player and to see how would it effect the sales of Slacker G2 player.
I was working on demos for Veodia most of the day. Cool stuff I could share in few days. So, as I was doing all these recording, I decieded to do one short message for the Blog. Because I can.
I had the pleasure working with Matthias Zeller, a Group Product Manager @ Adobe (twitter, blog) on several projects in the past. One of Matthias's projects is Adobe Genesis. The project was presented in the last Adobe Max and now available on Adobe.TV:
RWW shared a very interesting movie on the history of the Internet. The movie was crated by PICOL (picol.org - stands for Pictorial Communication Language) - it's a project that aims to create "a standard and reduced sign system for electronic communication." PICOL is free to use and open to alter.
Interesting discussion with SAP’s Leo Apotheker on Oliver Marks column today.
As Leo mentioned, if the Enterprise software is not built well, it may take down many businesses with it...
Great point that emphasizes one of the main differentiators of Enterprise software. For those who develop Enterprise 2.0 software/solutions, please keep this in mind. The transition from Web 2.0 to E2.0 is not trivial.
-- Update -- Interesting comments from Bill McDermott:
"...Bill McDermott, SAP (NYSE: SAP)'s CEO and president of global field operations, has a prediction on when software-as-a-service will become a popular platform on which large business will run their core business operations.
"Never," McDermott said, in an InformationWeek interview on Tuesday.."
So what are the differences between Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0? So many opinions and Blogs about is, so, let me share my short answers, based on who is asking... The kids version Web 2.0 is where daddy plays, Enterprise 2.0 is where daddy works.
The car fan version Web 2.0 is as if your car was shown on 'pimp my ride'. It is fully customized to your taste, so it is cool, noisy and unique. Enterprise 2.0 is like as if you car was shown on 'Top Gear'. It is in mass-production, cost a lot and performs as good as it looks. The philosophical version
Web 2.0 is a 21st century culture looking for a business (model), Enterprise 2.0 is a business looking for a 21st century culture. photo credits
The IT version
Web 2.0: "What is IT?" Enterprise 2.0: "What is Web 2.0"
(Well, some of them do get it...) The Mash-Up version
Web 2.0 is where you can mash-up anything you want. Just drag-n-drop, copy some embed codes, updated your blog and sync your twitter updates. Enterprise 2.0 is where you expect to log-in to one system and have everything integrated and aligned with your business process.
The Cloud Computing version Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 companies use cloud computing. While Web 2.0 companies are looking for low costs and scalability, Enterprise 2.0 companies are looking also for security, redundancy/recovery capabilities and good PR...

Feel free to use them if you like. Comments are welcome. E.T.
I like gadgets because they usually cute and bringing me value (saving, time, great experience, fun). Some gadgets are very cool, but also very bad for the environment (due to usage of toxic chemicals). Once in a while I get my hand/eye on a gadget which I like, but also green.
I would recommend you visiting the Greener Gadgets Design Competition Website, to learn about last year ideas, but also to have the opportunity to contribute.
Here is some information from the Website
Overview
Greener Gadgets has partnered with Core77 to generate outstanding design innovations for greener electronics. This year, the top 50 entries will be published on the web for voting and commenting, and top finalists will be showcased live at the Greener Gadgets Conference in New York City on February 27th for judging by an expert panel. Awards will be given out at the end of the conference program, and winners will be showcased on Core77.com, GreenerGadgets.com, CE.org, and Inhabitat.com.
Design Brief
We invite designers to explore the concept of "Greener Gadgets." Designs should seek to minimize the environmental impact of consumer electronic devices at any stage in the product lifecycle. Areas of sustainability to consider include energy, materials/lifecycle/recycling, social impact, and educational development. Designers can focus on a particular area of human enterprise (learning, playing, communicating, etc.), or a particular context (work, home, school, etc.), a particular material, or a specific device. Entries may also seek to create new paradigms for products and services.
